NEED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DIMMERS

Low Voltage/Magnetic

The link is a dimming tutorial. You must use the proper dimmer for the load type and it is straightforward until one starts working with an electronic transformer rather than the more common magnetic.

Some low voltage recessed fixture companies (not Juno) offer fixtures with either electronic or magnetic transformers. Dimming electronic transformer type fixtures can be very interesting and it is [...]

QUIET LIGHT SWITCHES?

Tell your electrician to put in a Lutron Maestro master with two remotes. You will have quiet switches and they all can dim. You can also program the master Maestro to come on at a dim level as the default so it will always be at the right setting no matter where it was left last.

TABLE LIGHTING DRIVING US CRAZY!! HELP NEEDED

Dining fixtures are normally 60" above the finished floor which leaves 30" between bottom of chandelier and the table. This allows for a centerpiece below the fixture. Your table is not long enough to have any choices about where to put the recessed fixtures. Put them where they clear the chandelier diameter. Don’t put them over the heads of people seated at the ends of the table. They need to be in front of seated guests. Because of the crowding [...]

SHALLOW 5" RECESSED LIGHTS? SOURCES? TRIMS?

Cooper Lighting’s Halo shallow 5? incandescent housing and a list of the trims that go with it. A short neck par 30 fits best in these.

Different lamp wattage and beam angles will produce widely different light levels at the work surfaces. Kitchen food prep tasks require a lot of light, especially for older [...]

INCANDESCENT AND LOW VOLTAGE ON SAME DIMMER SWITCH?

With some dimmers it is OK to have both low and line voltage together but you have to use a dimmer rated for the low voltage. Lutron says it is OK but not all brands do.

Lutron says it is OK to mix some incandescent line voltage with electronic low voltage when using one of their electronic low voltage dimmers. At least one other company doesn’t recommend it as it can cause problems. Dimming electronic transformers can be an experimental [...]
